Refresh and Rejuvenate: Chemical Vs. Laser Peels

Laser PeelPeels are an easy and quick way to restore and rejuvenate your skin and are popular amongst both men and women. As the two main types of peels, both chemical and laser peels offer patients optimal results in a minimal amount of time. However, before you decide on a peel, it’s important to know how they work, what they are used for, how long results last, and how long treatments take. Read on to learn more.

How Do They Work?

The concept behind both chemical and laser peels is the same; you are trying to get rid of the top few layers of skin to improve texture and appearance. A chemical peel, however, uses a chemical like alpha hydroxy acid to target the top few layers of skin. Whereas a laser peel heats up the skin which causes it to slough off and produce more collagen.

What Are They Used For?

As previously stated, both types of peels are used to improve your skin’s overall texture and appearance. However, chemical peels are specifically used to treat sun damage, acne, and wrinkles. Laser peels, on the other hand, are used to treat scars, blemishes, and wrinkles.

How Long Do Results Last?

As long as you practice good skin care and avoid the sun, your results from both chemical and laser peels can last for a few years. To get the best results, Dr. Daniel Tresley encourages patients to get a peel done at least every few months depending on your skin type and concerns.

How Long Do Treatments Take?

The great thing about both of these peels is that they only require an outpatient facility and can be done in under an hour. In fact, Dr. Daniel Tresley can perform a laser peel in around 30 minutes on average. And a chemical peel can usually be done in just 10 minutes.

Both chemical and laser peels are great ways at promoting clearer, healthier skin. If you would like to learn more about these treatments or if you would like to schedule an appointment, contact Dr. Daniel Tresley today!

Smooth and Supple: The Benefits of the Sciton Micro Laser Peel

Sciton BBLIn a perfect world, you would have the skin you have in your twenties for the rest of your life. Not only are your teenage hormones balanced out by the time you are in your twenties but your skin is usually free of those nasty lines and wrinkles as well. However, as not only age sets in but environmental elements as well, your skin can start to show signs of damage and wear. Luckily, Dr. Daniel Tresley specializes in a variety of treatments that are designed to help rejuvenate your skin so that although you may not be able to live in your twenties for forever, your skin can still look like it. As one of the best treatments to help rejuvenate your skin, a Sciton Micro Laser Peel is something that you should consider. Read on to learn more.

What is a Sciton Micro Laser Peel?
The Sciton Micro Laser Peel is designed to remove the top few layers of your skin in order to encourage the regrowth and production of newer, healthier skin. Once the Micro Laser Peel’s laser is brushed over the skin, it removes the top layer of skin. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow which result in less wrinkles and a more even colored skin tone.

What is the Procedure Like?
Before you undergo any type of procedure, it’s beneficial to know exactly what you can expect from it. Before treatment starts, your skin will be cleaned and Dr. Daniel Tresley will then put on the proper protective eyewear— both on you and himself. After everything is prepped and prepared, Dr. Tresley will then start the treatment which should be fairly painless because only the top parts of the skin are being targeted. Lasting about 15-30 minutes, you won’t have to take off a substantial amount of time from your day in order to get the procedure one.

What are Results Like?
After about 3-5 days following your Sciton Micro Laser Peel, you will start to see that your skin is not only smoother looking and feeling, but that your fine lines and wrinkles are a bit less apparent as well. In order to maintain these results, it is recommended that you get a peel a few times a year depending on your skin type and age.

7 Surefire Ways to Prevent the Appearance of Leg Veins

It is currently estimated that nearly half of the American population will experience the appearance of abnormal leg veins at one point in their lives — majority of which are 50 years old and above.

Here at our Chicago laser cosmetic practice, men and women seek our services because they want to improve the appearance of cosmetically unappealing leg veins. However, it should be noted that enlarged leg veins should be taken seriously not only because of their aesthetically unpleasant quality but also because of the possibility of them leading to serious health issues such as bleeding, skin ulcers/sores, thrombophlebitis, and deep vein thrombosis.

Genetics may play a role in the development of varicose veins. However, there are other factors influencing its occurrence that you can control.  We list down the steps to preventing their appearance below!

  1. Lose the extra kilos if you’re overweight. Being overweight or obese will place unnecessary pressure to your leg veins.
  2. Move a lot. You do not have to do complex exercise routines. A brisk walk, a short run, cycling, or a few laps in the pool will surely do the trick. Any activity that will help improve leg circulation will do.
  3. Avoid prolonged periods of standing and sitting. If you have to, take frequent breaks.
  4. Elevate your legs as much as possible when sitting or sleeping. In addition, avoid crossing your legs for prolonged periods.
  5. Avoid wearing high heels for long periods of time, too. Alternate them with low heeled shoes as they can improve leg circulation and help tone the calf muscles.
  6. Avoid long-term use of birth control pills and similar medications/treatments. Hormone-based drugs, particularly estrogen, can most likely have a negative impact on the leg vein valves which in turn increases the appearance of enlarged, bulging or twisted-like veins.
  7. Wear compression stockings that can put pressure to the veins which can reduce swelling. If you’re seeing early signs of varicose or spider veins, you might want to go for prescription compression stockings.

Laser Vein Treatment in Chicago and neighboring areas

One of the most effective treatments for leg veins are laser skin treatments. Laser treatments are beam pulses of energy under the skin’s surface. The energy is focused and works on a wavelength that is calibrated to destroy the offending veins without harming the skin’s surface. Typically, multiple sessions are recommended to achieve the most desirable results for the removal of leg veins.
