How is the blepharoplasty procedure performed?
Dr. Daniel S. Tresley and his team in Northbrook, IL typically performs the eyelid procedure during a surgical treatment that lasts approximately one hour or so, depending on what is being done. Patients will often use a combination of sedation medication, general anesthetics, or local anesthetics to ensure comfort. The surgeon makes incisions within the natural folds of the eyelids to ensure disguised scarring that does not impact the final results. Excess skin and fat are removed, and then the incision is closed with special sutured that are either dissolved on their own or removed several days after the procedure. Patients may have some downtime required to heal following the surgery, so arrangements for time off of school, work, or social activities should be arranged prior.
Who is a candidate for blepharoplasty?
In most situations, blepharoplasty is an elective procedure that is performed for adult men and women who are looking to slow the inevitable signs of aging. However, there are times when patients may need to have the procedure completed because their sagging eyelids are impacting their field of vision. During a consultation appointment, our doctor will provide a thorough evaluation to determine if a patient is a good fit for this or other surgical procedures available at the practice.
